Privacy Policy
Effective May 7, 2026DearSelf is built around one principle: your journal is yours. We designed the app so that your data never has to leave your device. This privacy policy explains what data DearSelf handles, where it goes, and — just as importantly — what it does not do.
1. Data we collect
We collect no personal data. DearSelf does not require an account, does not ask for your name or email, and does not transmit any information to our servers — because we have no servers that receive user data.
2. Data stored on your device
When you use DearSelf, the following data is created and stored locally on your device:
- Journal entries — text, mood selections, tags, and timestamps.
- Photos — images you attach to entries, stored in the app's sandboxed container.
- Calendar events and reminders — items you create within the app.
- App preferences — your chosen theme, settings, and display options.
All of this data resides in your device's local storage. It is not accessible to other apps, and it is not transmitted over any network unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.
3. iCloud sync (optional)
You may choose to sync your journal data to your personal iCloud account. When enabled, your data is transferred directly between your devices via Apple's iCloud infrastructure. DearSelf does not operate any intermediary servers in this process.
iCloud sync is off by default. You can enable or disable it at any time in the app's settings. When disabled, no data leaves your device.
iCloud data handling is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. On-device AI
DearSelf includes an AI journal agent that helps you reflect on your entries. This AI model runs entirely on your device using Apple's Neural Engine. It does not connect to external servers, does not send your data to any cloud AI service, and does not require an internet connection to function.
No journal text, mood data, or any other personal content is used to train AI models — by us or by anyone else.
5. Analytics and tracking
DearSelf does not include any analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, advertising frameworks, or third-party data collection tools. We do not track how you use the app, what you write, or when you open it.
6. Third-party services
DearSelf does not integrate with any third-party services beyond Apple's iCloud (when you opt in). There are no social features, no sharing mechanisms, and no external APIs called by the app.
7. Data deletion
Since all data is stored on your device (and optionally in your iCloud), you have full control over deletion:
- Delete individual entries within the app at any time.
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data from your device.
- iCloud data can be managed through your device's iCloud storage settings.
8. Children's privacy
DearSelf does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Since the app collects no data at all, there is no data to distinguish between users of any age.
9. Changes to this policy
If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version on this page with an updated effective date. Since DearSelf does not collect contact information, we cannot notify you directly — we encourage you to review this page periodically.
10. Contact
